Ahhhhh....We just got back from Navajo Lake. My sister, Carolyn, and I went for just two days and we had a marvelous time. We fished like crazy and the fishing was really good. Carolyn caught 25 fish and I caught 18. Yes, I was the loser as far as our fishing contest went but you should ask me about our Scrabble tournament! I should tell you that we were doing "catch and release" in the event you are thinking of calling the Fish and Game Warden. We only saved three to cook for lunch on the second day. They were delicious! We wrapped them in foil and cooked them in the fire coals. This was a beautiful sunrise over the lake. We just love that place. Our whole family has great memories of activities around this lake.
Here is our camp. Carolyn teased me about my "potty" tent you see behind the tree but I really like it. It doubles as a shower that feels wonderful. I just heat the 5 gallon solar bag of water in the sun and voila!
This is Carolyn cleaning our fish with a plastic knife. I forgot to bring a good knife but we were determined to eat those fish so she was just sawing away with that goofy plastic knife. I suppose she would have used her teeth if I hadn't brought plastic knives!!!! LOL The knife broke after she cleaned two fish so we just ate two.
When we got home we decided we hadn't had enough fishing so I told her about a pond near our home that had blue gill and cat fish. I had never fished for anything but trout so we decided to go and try our luck. She fishes for all kinds of fish in Texas so she wanted to show me how to catch cat fish and how to clean them. They have spines on their gills that can really give you a nasty wound if you aren't careful. She told me they are ugly and smelly to clean but yummy to eat. So we fished for about an hour and I caught a great big cat fish!! It was 18 inches long and just as ugly as can be. Wow, was I excited. After we got home and got a picture of me with my big cat fish she proceeded to clean it. UGH! When the guts and gunk started oozing out of its big whiskery mouth I said, "That's it!" I just couldn't cook that, so we threw it away. She thinks I am a big baby. She is right. I love Carolyn.
